Training athletes of all ages for over three decades, my coaching philosophy or “style,” has always been Three Dimensional. The first is “Fundamental” teaching of the simple mechanics of learning a sport. The second is “Psychological” teaching: Motivation, Confidence, Mental imagery, Emotions, Focus and Intensity are all mental skills which are connected to one another and allow the athletes to greatly improve performance. The last is the “Heart,” which embodies the mind, body and spirit. Capturing the heart of the athlete is the greatest reward for a coach. It’s always a priority for me to understand what’s going on in an athlete’s life beyond training/triathlon, in order to build a smart plan that fits their lifestyle.
